2006... a year that comes and gone just like that. It's year of happenings both locally and aboard, both concerning me and none of my business. Maybe it's time to do some recollections of my past 1 year and learn some useful lessons.
2006, an important year cos it's a year where I say bye bye to my formal education. HYP took up a substantial amount of my time ine first few months of 2006. Coding and coding, thinking how to work around a problem th (or constrain). Thankfully that I have my HYP mate, ZQ, with me. He did a lot of the underlaying mechanism that makes it possible for the system to communicate with each another across the network. It's pretty amazing that we can get the whole middleware system, ported over from J2SE to J2ME within 4 months.
My term at cblc has also ended and this mark the end of my 4 years of time at cblc. Really feel sad to leave the place as I spent most of my happiest moments at NUS in cblc. I always say that I will not remember anything that got to do with SoC or NUS more than my eca. Friendships are forged not becos of the happy time you spent together, not becos you all share the same workload, but becos you all go through the same shit and sweat together and in the process help one another. There may be disagreements at times, but it's important to see others' point of views. It's the tolerance and trust that you have for one another. It's a common aim and sense of mission that you all share.
Speaking of friends, I remember of my friends said that never ever mix your different groups of friends together cos that spell disaster! Well, for him, it's not so bad cos it only facilitates exchange of intelligence. But sometimes, different groups of friends tend to have different cultures. Surprising huh that a person can have many different cultures hahaha. If birds of the same feather flock together, then a person must have many different kind of feathers..hahahaahaha. Ok, back to the topic. When 2 groups of people are mixed together, definitely they will not understand each other and might not be able to stand each other's behaviour. Well, that's not really a problem. The serious thing comes only when someone badmouth another person from the other group in front of their common friend. This is quite serious as personally I feel that it means a lack of respect for their common friend. Till now, I'm glad to say that none of my friends belong to this category. Just a few hours of getting together do not give you the right to do so, unless that person did something really bad, something that against the humanity, somethings that against the social norm (eg. killings, stealing, insulting/abusing people etc).
2006 also marks the start of my first job. Though it's not really my ideal kind of job, it's actually not a bad one. Like what someone had said, pick up the basics and move on from there. Will I still be doing what I'm doing now in a year time... I dun have the answer. Let's see what Fate has in it for me. 命中有时终需有,命中无时莫强求. Work can be challenging at times, esp when I need to think out of the box (yes, it's that phrase again!). But sometimes, the solution is as simple as ABC, and yet I complicated the whole thing. It's the most sad when the client wants to make dramatic changes to the already completed work cos they had change their mind in what they want. The work involved to adapt the changes can be quite daunting. People say always make your system as generic as possible, so that it's easy to make any changes. But to me, a generic system only make the thing slower and not as efficient. But ultimately, it belongs to which school of thought you subscribed to and the architecture you wish to have...
